Anna Maria's booth at Houston Quilt Market

So here is where I start gushing!  This past Sunday I was graciously allowed to work a booth for the Modern Quilt Guild during Houston's Market Show.  This means I got to see behind the curtain and into the realm of designers and industry awesomeness.  It did not disappoint!!  I met so many people that I have admired for so long - and they were all really kind and fun to talk shop with.  I shouldn't be surprised - but I was a tiny bit that they would be so generous with their time!  So, one of my favorite designers is Anna Maria Horner.  And she was at Market with her cutie husband signing books at her booth.  I invited her to come to our Festival Meet Up - and when she couldn't make it she donated 150 copies of her new brochure complete with an excerpt and pattern from her new book! Guild sister Becca purchased a copy of Anna Maria's Needlework Notebook and I got to peruse it - total eye candy and a must have for all needlepoint fans!  Join us on Saturday, Nov 3rd at 7pm at the  Lobby Bar of the Hilton Americas (attached to the George R. Brown Convention Center) - free needlework pattern from Anna Maria for the first 150!

Charity Sewing Update from Paula

Photo
This past Saturday was our fall charity Sew In at St. Martin's.  The focus was for wheelchair sized lapquilts.  We went home with 4 finished quilts, 3 finished quilt tops and several other GREAT GALS went home with their finished quilt tops. Anna V brought 3 or 4 of her "mega hidden nine patch" blocks and finished at least two tops. She shared her extras "kits" with us and did a quick tutorial on how to do these. We had coffee, kolaches and a surprise... homemade oatmeal-raisin-cranberry cookies (thanks Karen!). There were at least 15 present and we had several drop ins. We have kits we will we working on all year thanks to the many gracious members of this group who brought in donation fabrics. Special thanks go to Karen, Kerri, Beth, Eileen and Anna for doing so much and a very extra special hug to Tammy whose fabulous donation of some great fabric got a lot of wheels turning! One of the nicest surprises was the participation of SEVERAL NEW members! Way to go girls! Eileen (wait till y'all see her mini quilt), Kerri (my newest sewing/shopping buddy in crime), Becky (check out her flickr page...WOW) , Shelia (who I kept wanting to call Sharron and insisting she was a reality star!) , Lauren (super cool hand dyed home made lunch box!...tutorial anyone?) , Jami (gimmie them clogs Mama!), Anna (sew cool....great BIG BLOCKS!!) and if I missed any of the other newbies, my apologies, I was trying to sew...LOL...which was difficult with all these talented ladies present!
Best of all...we found out just how super multi talented our members are...we were serenaded on piano by Sabrina and invited to come to a concert by our own concert violinist Dea! HOLY SMOKES...Who knew???
Quilts should be brought in by the Nov meeting. AND if you need more time, we can meet up in Dec, sometime before Christmas. I would like to take them to the homes the week before.
We will be doing children's quilts all year for Child Advocates. These I will take over to them once I have at least 10 collected. Any size will do the majority of kids they see are aged 4 to 12. Sabrina's son (he's only 9!!) made and donated the first children's quilt. What a great kid!
