Follow up to Pin Cushion Swap

Since Saturday was our meeting, I can now post pictures of what the wonderful ladies of the Emerald Coast Modern Guild Guild sent us.







In all over 24 pounds and 60 pin cushions were traded.

Pinnies!

We held our inter-guild pin cushion swap with the wonderful ladies from the Emerald Coast Modern Quilt Guild.  They had their meeting last Saturday so I am sharing pictures of what the Houston Modern Guild sent them.







I heard that the ladies loved the pin cushions they received.  Saturday, August 16 is the Houston Modern Quilt Guild's meeting so I will post pictures of what we received later.

This Months Meeting

We are going to be playing Fat Quarter Bingo at this months guild meeting! Make sure to come prepared to participate in this super fun activity!

Game Instructions

This Saturday, we will be engaging in another bingo round with a big twist!!! We are going to be bringing our own pre-made bingo cards!!

Instructions for making your BINGO CARDS are downloadable here:http://www.fonsandporter.com/articles/quilt_guild_bingo.

Each person should make either one or two cards to play, and bring a handful of buttons or something similar to use as markers. We will play five lightning rounds. Bring a FQ for each round you want to play PER CARD, that is 10 FQs max. Winners of each round will win one fifth of the fat quarters collected. A special bonus round will be played for a surprise prize package!

Holiday Head Start this Saturday

Hey there HMQG! Don't forget that tomorrow is our Holiday Head-start Workshop!

Here are all the details:

Sat, August 2nd, 2014

St Martin's Episcopal - Room 210/212 (our regular room!)
Our Holiday Headstart is a group of workshops given by our awesomely talented members all day on Saturday to give us a headstart on our Christmas making!

Our schedule:
Jacey - 9:30-10:30am - handmade napkins
Liz - 10:45-11:45am - roll-up tote
~lunch break - 12-1~
Hilary - 1-2pm - pot holders
Karri - 2:15-3:15pm - scented sugar scrub
Amy - 3:30-4:30 - reusable produce bags

Workshop Descriptions and Supply Lists:



Jacey's handmade napkins:(9:30-10:30am)
A gift of handmade napkins is simple to make, but will be treasured at every meal. Jacey Lucas will be showing us how to make these quick and easy reversible napkins from 9:30-10:30 am.   Supplies: 2 (prewashed) FQs per napkin, thread, ribbon or embellishment (optional).   A limited number of kits will be available for a small fee.  If you would like to purchase a kit for any of the sessions, please email Amy at amycampbell1970@gmail.com as a limited number are available.


Liz's Roll-Up Tote: (10:45-11:45)

Liz will be showing us how to make a super cute roll up tote you can fit in your purse, from 10:45-11:45 a.m.

Here's what you'll need:

main body of the bag: 2 fabric pieces 15 x 10 inches
contrasting top of bag: 2 fabric pieces 15 x 6 inches
handles: 2 fabric pieces 4 x 16 inches
6 inches of thin elastic (I use a hair band)

Hilary's Pot Holders: (1-2pm)
 
Hilary will be teaching us how to make quick and easy potholders! For each potholder you will need the following:
1  Moda Candy Mini Charm Pack (or 12 2.5" squares of coordinating fabrics)
2  Fat Quarters
1  6.5" x 6.5" piece of cotton batting
2  6.5" x 8" piece of cotton batting or 1 6.5" x 8.5" piece of batting & 1  6.5" x 8.5" piece of Insul-Bright batting   If you'd prefer not to have to put together your own supplies, we will have a limited number of kits available for $6 each. If you would like to purchase a kit for any of the sessions, please email Amy at amycampbell1970@gmail.com as a limited number are available.


Karri's Sugar Scrub: (2:15-3:15pm)

Karri will be showing us how to make a lemon hand scrub and a peppermint body scrub from 2:15 - 3:15 pm.  These scrubs make lovely and  useful gifts, and are simple and economical to make!   A limited number of kits will be available for $6 each and will include three jars of scrub and a page of labels. If you would like to purchase a kit for any of the sessions, please email Amy at amycampbell1970@gmail.com as a limited number are available.   If you do not wish to purchase a kit, please bring your own small jars (baby food jars are perfect!) and consider donating a few dollars to reimburse for materials and labels.

Amy's Reusable Produce Bags: (3:30-4:30pm)

Amy will be showing us how to make cute reusable produce bags, from 3:30 - 4:30 pm.

Reusable Produce Bag

Materials/Notions:

1 Fat Quarter per bag– Cute foodie print a must!
½ yard Utility Mesh (enough for 6-8 bags)
Clothesline/Cording (about 24” per bag)
Coordinating Thread
Walking Foot (optional, but makes working with the mesh so much easier)
Steam-a-Steam, ¼” wide (optional, but might help with the mesh)

A limited number of kits will be available for $7.  Each kit will contain everything to make TWO bags, except thread. If you would like to purchase a kit for any of the sessions, please email Amy at amycampbell1970@gmail.com as a limited number are available.
