Charity BOM

Each month starting with the May 2014 meeting, we will have a Charity Block of the Month. Here's a little bit about how it works:

A different block tutorial will be posted each month here on the Charity BOM page.

The color suggestions are going to be the same all year long: low volume background, scrappy design for the block. That way if we have orphan blocks they can be combined at the end of the year for yet another quilt!

Each month, make the blocks based on the tutorials listed. Make as many as you'd like, each block is your entry in a drawing for a FABULOUS fat quarter bundle and pattern. The more blocks you make, the more entries you get in the drawing!

One lucky volunteer can take home the blocks for that month and piece them into a quilt.

Thanks to Stevey Lupo for agreeing to take home the Wonky Churn Dash blocks from the May meeting!

Ideally, we'll have enough blocks at every meeting to make another quilt to donate each month. By the end of the year we should be able to donate at least 6 quilts to the Start of Hope Women's shelter.

If you make blocks but are unable to attend the meeting, bring them to the next meeting you can attend. You'll be given an entry in that month's drawing for each block you made. Plus you'll get entries for any blocks you made for the current month!

Color suggestion for all blocks: low volume background, bright/modern for the design

Here are the tutorials (I'll continue to add to this list each month).

May: Wonky Churn Dash

June is the BBQ so take this extra time to make extra blocks for July!

July: Wonky Cross

August: Combined with September

September: Wonky Log Cabin (you knew it would be wonky, right?)
  • The link is for the best tutorial I've found (the first one I ever used to make anything Wonky and then I was HOOKED!)
  •  Here are some more preferences for these blocks:
    • Size: 12.5" unfinished (if you make it a little bigger, that's fine, just so we can trim it down)
    • Color preference (just a suggestion so the blocks semi coordinate): Light blue/aqua, orange and white/low volume (that can be grey, cream or white)
    • You can chose one or all of those colors for your blocks. I think it will make it more interesting to leave it wide open!

October: TBA

November: TBA

December: Christmas party - take a break

January 2015: Donate all the quilts we've made!

If you have any questions about this, please drop me a message and I'll do the best I can to answer your question.

Thanks!
Anna
