Our monthly meeting on the 19th is quickly approaching, and this month we are doing something fun! We'll be having a workshop hosted by our very own Cathy Winter. She will be teaching us a method for making the Scrappy Trip Around blocks. It is sure to be lots of fun.
Here are the supplies that you should bring:
1) Fabric cut into strips 2½” wide by 16” long (or longer) OR use a Jellyroll (every 6 strips from a jelly roll will make 2 blocks with a
remnant). The minimum fabric to bring: 6 strips cut 2 1/2" by 16" as
this will make one 12" (finished) trip-along block. There is no
maximum.
2) A SEAM RIPPER (technique involves some selective ‘un-stitching’).
3) Sewing machine, thread, scissors & other such basic sewing needs
4) Cutting mat(18”x12” works), rotary cutter, ruler for rotary cutting (I use a 6”x12”). IF your strips are not precut, then a larger mat and a longer ruler will be needed.
5) Iron and ironing mat/board; an extension cord. {Last workshop we had an extension cord issue, so bring extras if you have them :) }
Additional Note on the Fabric Selection: Fabrics can be a scrappy
assortment or a coordinated blend. The two samples (shown on Cathy's blog here)
use garden floral prints, arranged to make a strong diagonal in each
block. This pattern works up nicely in a variety of combinations.
If you want to learn this method but are unsure of what fabrics to
bring, consider sewing blocks for a donation quilt. Please let Mod Quilt Girl Anna
know that you are interested so our guild can provide the strips for
these donation blocks. Or if you have strips to donate for a charity
quilt, bring them along (& Thank–You in advance)!
The original pattern by Bonnie Hunter is available for free on Quiltville.com. Click here. More samples can be seen on the Scrappy Trip Along group on Flickr.
Join us to learn this fun and easy pattern! Don't forget to pack a lunch, any show-n-tell projects you have, and your mini
quilts to swap. Looking forward to seeing you in 2 weeks!
IMPORTANT: This meeting will take place in Founders Hall from 10am - 4pm on the first floor of the church. We will not be meeting in our usual room.

ReplyDeleteIf you like the variation posted (on my FB, Flickr & Instagram), be sure to bring a solid (or focus fabric) sliced into 2 1/2", 4 1/2" and 6 1/2" slices.
