We appreciate you renewing your membership with the Houston Modern Quilt Guild for 2017. If you have any friends who are interested, bring them along to the February meeting. Remember, the first two visits are free.
At the February meeting, we'll be highlighting sergers and overlockers. What are they? What do they do? How can they be used in quilting, sewing, and garment making? We will answer all these questions and more!
After the meeting, I will be leading a practical demonstration on how to thread and use your serger. Bring that serger you may never have taken out of the box, or dust off your rarely used serger, and let's put them to work. We'll be practicing our serging by making pillowcases for charity!

Charity Update
First, thanks to Tammy for doing this job last year, and for being the keeper of our donated fabric.
I am now the proud recipient of a trunk full (literally!) of fabric and kits - this should help us replenish/augment our stashes and provide some inspiration for quilts to donate. Buried in the mountain of donated fabric was a completed full-size quilt top and backing in red/white/black; Jenn has agreed to take this and complete for Katy Cares (see below).
Second, we are hoping to have a charity sew-in during Q1, so please stay tuned for details.
Third, Jenn Saxena told us about Katy Cares, a new life transition shelter in Katy for homeless women and their children. These folks are a candidate for our charity quilts this year, as I think we can really have a positive impact and have the benefit of a close connection through Jenn.
Lastly, about those bags of upholstery swatches I brought to our January meeting ... they are no more! Hope those of you who took some are enjoying those luscious fabrics. Don't forget to bring your completed treasures to Sew 'N Tell!
Remember - every quilt can make a difference to someone!
