HMQG Medallion QAL

Amy, our Swaps, Challenges, and BOM Chair, will be leading us through a 2016 HMQG Medallion Quilt Along (QAL). Each month (or every other month as the rounds get larger) she will provide the pattern and instructions for a brand new medallion quilt design via email the day after our meeting. The quilt will finish at 72" square. While all who participate will be using the same pattern, you are encouraged to make this quilt your own, through fabric selections, tweaks to the pattern, etc. Bring medallion each month so we can see how great they are shaping up.

Next January we will bring our finished medallion quilts for Sew and Tell, and all who show at least a completed top will be entered into a drawing for a lovely prize! Share your progress on social media with #HMQGMedallion.

January- Create your center block for your quilt. It needs to be a 12.5" unfinished quilt clock. Choose whatever pattern you would like, don't forget to share on Facebook and Instagram!

February - Paper piecing with the free Goosing Borders pattern. Click HERE to download.

March/April - The second round for the Houston Modern Medallion Quilt features half square triangles (HSTs) . . . lots of them!  There are many ways of making HSTs, and Blossom Heart Quilts has a fantastic article with links to four of the most common ways to make them.  Click HERE to visit her blog and see which method or methods will work best for you!

May/June - thirty-six Sugar Loaf blocks, each measuring 4” finished.

July/August - twenty-four Raspberry Kiss blocks, each measuring 8” finished

September - Scrappy Brick Border

Final/October - Four-Patch Round

We can't wait to see what you make, so remember to bring your progress to the next meeting, and tag your photos on Instagram with #hmqgmedallion.

  1. I attended the June meeting at Ami's house, and felt so welcome and at home! It was a very friendly and talented group, and from what I could see, I felt that it was just what I have been looking for.
