Sew In November 12th

Don't forget next Monday is our next Sew In Date - November 12th 3-9pm at St. Martin's Church. We don't have any planned activites so bring your current Works-In-Progress and get sewing! Come for the whole time or just whatever works for you. Some people are planning on doing some Charity sewing for Sandy victims. The charge is $5 to the church to pay for space. Hope to see you there!

I like to put photos up for all my posts and I saw this pic I just had to use it to excite you guys. I wish this darling Hexie quilt was my next WIP - but I am going to have to wait for it to be released. I saw it at Market and fell in love with it. Tula Pink is so smart and created a hexie kit to make this quilt - all precut in little baggies and ready to start hexing it up. I can't wait!!

Market Update from Jacey

Jacey finds her Indie Twin at Market

A lot of guild members this year got to attend the Market portion of The Houston Quilt Show and Market which is off limits to normal folks.  This is why I thought showing you their photos and musings about Market would make it almost as fun as being there.  I hope!!

First I am going to start with Jacey who had an incredible first time at Market.  Here she finds someone wearing the same Indie fabric.  And yes, they are both rocking it!  Check out Jacey's Blog to see some of her great photos.  I got to go to market twice and I didn't see lots of the stuff in her photos. Like the Sarah Watson booth - how did I miss that?  I was in the Art Gallery area and missed it.  Well, Market really is big and overwhelming and amazing.

Guild Member Patty Sloniger's Fall Quilt Market Booth

HMQG member Patty Sloniger of Beck and Lundy had an incredible booth at Market - here is her blog about it and more photos:  http://www.beckandlundy.com/2012/10/fall-quilt-market-2012-part-1.html

Here is her booth showcasing her new collection for Michael Miller, "Les Amis"!   The guild members that got to see it gushed about how wonderful it is.  She even includes a cool tutorial on her blog.  You can also see which guild members helped to get it all sewn up and ready for Market!  She has also donated a cool surprise from this booth to one lucky person who comes to our Festival Meet Up!

Anna Maria's booth at Houston Quilt Market

So here is where I start gushing!  This past Sunday I was graciously allowed to work a booth for the Modern Quilt Guild during Houston's Market Show.  This means I got to see behind the curtain and into the realm of designers and industry awesomeness.  It did not disappoint!!  I met so many people that I have admired for so long - and they were all really kind and fun to talk shop with.  I shouldn't be surprised - but I was a tiny bit that they would be so generous with their time!  So, one of my favorite designers is Anna Maria Horner.  And she was at Market with her cutie husband signing books at her booth.  I invited her to come to our Festival Meet Up - and when she couldn't make it she donated 150 copies of her new brochure complete with an excerpt and pattern from her new book! Guild sister Becca purchased a copy of Anna Maria's Needlework Notebook and I got to peruse it - total eye candy and a must have for all needlepoint fans!  Join us on Saturday, Nov 3rd at 7pm at the  Lobby Bar of the Hilton Americas (attached to the George R. Brown Convention Center) - free needlework pattern from Anna Maria for the first 150!
